Operation Write Home #196 & Send A Smile 4 Kids

I have two cards today, but I have to rush off and make more!  There is just never enough time:(

My first card will be entered into two challenges.  I’ve made a number of these to go to both, Operation Write Home & Send A Smile 4 Kids🙂  OWH is a sketch challenge:

OWHsketch196SAS4K is Early Holiday Wishes 4 Kids.

Half-fold Card1Everything on this card is digital from Doodle Pantry set, Sledding Ants COLOR plus, except the background snowy paper,  that came from Clearly Digi Stamps, which is no more:(  But, a number of the images from CDS will show up at Doodle Pantry, so you might want to keep an eye open and subscribe to their blog😉  OMGoodness, I almost forgot!  Doodle Pantry is sponsoring the challenge over at Operation Write Home this week, head over there for a chance to win:)

I don’t do digital cards like some other people, mine are printed and then layered like a regular card. I had printed out all the layers and mounted the whole card with tape and glue.  Ugh, I was way too tired I guess, because I got glue and tape everywhere! 😦   I was not happy at all:(  So I went back and blended most of the layers.  The back teal, the snow layer, the purple layer and the ants are all one layer printed on my printer with photo, matte paper.  The patterned teal is one layer by itself, and the orange layer with all the wording is one layer.  So there are three layers, plus the cardstock. Oh, I did put the orange layer on top of a piece of cardstock cut to size.  This particular card will go to OWH, the cards going to SAS4K will have a few embellishments added and maybe a little glitter:)  Sorry, no glitter for OWH cards;)

This process may be quick and easy for some people, but I really have to work to get everything to look right!  So if you’re thinking I just threw together a digital card, you would be mistaken.  Maybe after I make a hundred of these cards I will be faster, but right now they take forever!   However, I love how it looks and there isn’t glue or tape poking out everywhere;)

My next card didn’t turn out exactly how I planned:(

Half-fold Card2Of course the black background is fine, the embossing is fine even the Fred She Said, Blue Jay looks beautiful!  But I don’t like how I cut the black oval around the Blue Jay:(   My die cut the black too large for my taste, so I cut it smaller by hand. I’m not doing that again!  Overall I love the card, and probably no one else will even notice, but it just bugs me.  I’m most probably going to make it over, I’m so picky!

Wow, I’ve talked too much!  I have to get on with making more cards!!

Thanks for stopping in today! 🙂  Hope to see you again soon! 🙂

Merry Monday #79, Friday Mashup #132 & Operation Write Home

I’m having so much trouble fitting my card making in:(  I have two cards today that look pretty simple.  Actually they weren’t too hard, just time consuming.  To send to Operation Write Home, I have to make sure everything is glued down well, but no glue can be sticking out anywhere.  That way the cards don’t all get stuck together during shipment.  Here is my first card for Merry Monday #79, but first the challenge;)

MM New Look Sketches-012

Today we have a colour/theme challenge for you!!! We are looking for Blue, Silver/Gray and White with Snowflakes!!

Half-fold Card1I love the Memory Box die that I used for the bottom of the card!!  Boy, is it hard to glue down!!  I used Stampin’ Up! Tombow glue, and put little dots on the back everywhere!  For the really tiny spots, I put some glue on a piece of paper and used my craft knife to add just little, tiny bits of glue at the very tip of my craft knife.  I was walking through Michaels, and saw this ribbon that looked perfect for the challenge.  I glued it to my card using a tape runner.  The words are Peel-Offs.  Peel-Offs are very popular overseas, I “found” them about 5 years ago, on a card making site. Peel-offs are pre-glued like stickers.   You can find some here.  Here’s a photo of one page, you can see I’ve used most of the “Merry Christmas” and a few of the bells and trees.

Half-fold Card3

If you’re not good at heat embossing, you might want to try these.  They come in Silver, Gold, and a number of other colors like black, white, copper, or holigraphic. I used cardstock from Stampin’ Up!, Tempting Turquoise.  This card is going in the Operation Write Home box:)

My second card is for the challenge over at the Friday Mashup #132.

Here’s your Mashup Challenge:
Create a project with a “Tree or Leaves.”
Create a project using the “Color Orange.”
Or Mash it Up and create a “Project with Leaves/ Tree & the Color Orange.”

Here’s my card:

Half-fold Card2I struggled with this card, because I had sooooo many choices!  I finally settled on this digital image that I bought on Esty, from BaBaPuff.  I actually found it by accident so I don’t have a link for you:(  I printed it on my special brochure paper, matte.  Then I printed a second one the same size and cut out the small square.  I backed the square with Stampin’ Up! Tangerine Tango cardstock, also the bottom colored layer.  The little tag is Stampin’ Up! Itty Bitty Banners. This set has a matching die set called Framelits-Bitty Banners.

I’m getting pretty used to making everything close to the card.  Anything I send to Operation Write Home needs to not have “sticky out parts”.  They can catch to other cards and get pulled off.  My layers are glued as close to the card as I can get them.  Actually I tape them and glue them. It’s become a habit now;)

Operation Write Home is working on Winter cards now, Christmas has been sent or are about to be sent.  Here is a list of themes they will be needing, besides Winter, and Valentines Day:

Accepted themes:
Thank you
Missing you
Thinking of you
Blank (no sentiment)  All cards should be blank inside, with plenty of room for writing. Blank (no sentiment) means no sentiment on the front, just decorated.

Also, please don’t forget about the Children’s Hospitals.  Send A Smile 4 Kids has less restrictions, and is a very worthy cause.  I’m sending Halloween this week and than it’s on to Christmas! 🙂  Because the Hospitals are right here in the USA, cards can be sent closer to the Holiday:)

Do you know card makers with ties to the military, or just appreciates the sacrifice our service people are making, anyone who has a special place in their hearts for children?  Don’t have a lot of extra cards?  Don’t worry, any amount will do.  But think of card making parties, friends, relatives, anyone who crafts.  I know Christmas is very stressful for a lot of people, that’s why I make Christmas cards all year, at least one a week! 🙂  Take a look at my cards listed under the OWH, and SAS4K  categories, pop over to their websites and see what others are making.  Everything should be handmade, but it doesn’t have to be filled with embellishments.

As a matter of fact, if you want to send notes or letters to our troops, they can be store bought cards.  They do not need envelops. They can be sent anytime.  Our troops love hearing from people back home, you don’t even have to craft.  There are coloring pages on the OWH website, children can color or write letters.  Ask your school or church to help out! 🙂

Ok, sermon over.  I guess my Holiday Spirit has kicked in already! 😉  It breaks my heart to think of anyone alone and sad on a Holiday, or anytime really:(

I’m so glad you stopped by today! 🙂  Crafters are one of the best people to know, they are kind and giving, and usually patient;)  I hope to see you soon:)

Friday Mashup #130 & OWH Midweek throwdown

I have a lot of cards tonight, so not much explanation, but please feel free to ask if you have questions on supplies or anything else:)  My first card is for the Friday Mashup Challenge #130.

Here’s your Mashup Challenge:
Create a project with “Ripped paper.”
Create a project with a “a fussy cut image.” (Cut something out)
Or Mash it Up and create a project “with some Ripped paper & something Fussy Cut.”

Here’s my card:

Half-fold Card1I have to say it doesn’t look as nice in the photo than it does in hand.  I love how this card turned out!  I have used a similar flower and have also used this  layout before, but I think this one turned out the best of all of them!!:)  You need to click on the card to really see how beautiful the flower is and the awesome middle embellishment!  Okay, all of this is just my opinion, maybe you’ll like it too:)  The flower image is from Fred She Said called, Pointy Poinsettia Flowers.  I can already tell those of you who know me well are thinking this is a pre-colored image, not this time!  I took out my Aqua Painter from Stampin’ Up! and used Read Red and Always Artichoke to hand paint this flower!!  And yes, I followed the rules, it’s all hand cut!  I painted it and then cut it out. It’s so pretty and it stands up quite a way, this will definitely be going to one of my family members, because it will have to be boxed and maybe hand delivered!

Now I have three more cards, yes three!  These cards are for a challenge over at Operation Write Home called the Midweek Throwdown.  The challenge is to make multiple cards that are easy to make over and over.  Mine are kind of multiple, I did make three, but they aren’t exactly the same;)

Half-fold Card2A great image from Fred She Said, I’ve used this image a lot of times, it’s called Christmas Poinsettia Lanntern Set.  I’m assuming that’s the way you spell Lantern in Canada;)  Yes, it’s pre-colored;)

Half-fold Card3

Another awesome digital image from Fred She Said! 🙂  This one is called Catchin’ Flakes. I adore this image, it reminds me of my baby brother when he was small, quite a few years ago! 😉

Half-fold Car4

This last card is made with a pre-colored digital image from Doodle Pantry called, Cocoa Cup Ants.   You can shop by colored images, the are about 368, but there are plenty of un-colored digis and paper packs as well.  I love pre-colored digital images!  I have three of my grandchildren staying with me.  They’ve been here for a number of months and it’s practically impossible to make cards:(  Pre-colored digital images have helped me make a lot more cards, because the coloring is already done:)  And, of course, I don’t color that well anyway:(

I hope you’ve enjoyed viewing my cards today:)  Thanks for stopping by! 🙂  I hope to see you again soon:)

Merry Monday #77, Doodle Pantry #39 & Operation Write Home

Wow, a lot going on today!  I have two cards today, both Christmas cards:)  The first card will be entered into the Challenge over at Always Playing With Paper,  Merry Monday #77.  They have a color challenge this week that at first, I hated it!  But then it kind of grew on me and I embraced the challenge and actually made two with the chosen colors! What are those colors, you must be wondering…….Red, Pink, Dark Green, Light Green and White.  I was okay with all the colors, except the Pink. Then I found some perfect papers!  The papers are by Sassy Designs and the set is called Fruitcake, which is pretty much how I felt about the colors. lol

I don’t think I’m thrilled with these colors together, but you have to check out the other cards!  The cards submitted are pretty great! 🙂  So check out Merry Monday and stop by every week for a new challenge:)

Now for my card:

Half-fold Card1You can click on my cards to see them larger.  You may want to if you want to see the snowflake detail on the pink paper.  I used VersaMark and stamped some snowflakes from the Stampin’ Up! set, Serene Snowflakes (retired).  I used Stampin’ Up! Pretty In Pink as the background color.  Then I layered the Fruitcake dots.  I used SU Real Red and embossed it with Stampin’ Up! Petals a Plenty folder. I used a retired SU snowflake punch, with a little snowflake brad to keep it in place.  Finally, I added my cute Westie image from Fred She Said called, Winter Westie.   Here’s the set info:

-includes BOTH the DIGI and Pre-Coloured versions.
-DIGI ( uncoloured ) is in JPG, PNG + printable sheet. Digi also includes an alternate Wesite WITHOUT a scarf.
-Pre-coloured are in JPG and include 2 versions of scarf + printable SHEET

*Pre-Coloured Westies ( with scarf ) are available in PNG by email request anytime after purchase.

I asked for the PNG version that I requested after purchase, that  has no blue background.  I mounted it on SU Garden Green.  Everything is mounted low profile with just added cardstock layers.  Both of my cards will be going to Operation Write Home and your cards can’t be too thick.  Currently they have at least two challenges going on, be sure to check them out! 🙂

My second card will be going into the Doodle Pantry Challenge #39. Their challenge starts the first of every month, and runs for the entire month, so you have lots of time to join in the fun! 🙂   Here’s my card:

Half-fold Card2How is that for a Pink Christmas card?  I got this idea from Pat Dadisman, who submitted it over at Doodle Pantry, you can see her card here, as well as the digital image, Fancy Flamingo, by Doodle Pantry.  I also used DP Santa Accessories COLOR plus for the hat.  The following are the Stampin’ Up! products I used:  Garden Green cardstock, stamp from  the Delightful Decorations (retired) set, and the matching punch (retired). I stamped the ornament with Real Red.

The colorful paper comes from Sassy Designs and is part of the Fruitcake set. This card will also be going in the box for Operation Write Home.  The joy ornament is popped up with extra cardstock to keep a low profile:)

Ok, I think that’s it for now.  I have to get busy and make lots more cards!!

Thanks for stopping by today, I’m always happy to have you! 🙂   I hope you can stop by again:)
