Freshly Made Sketches #175

I finally made two cards myself, for Send A Smile 4 Kids! 🙂  Yep, it gets busy here with lots of kids running around! 😉  UPDATE:  This is a free image from Doodle Pantry:)  Check out the Freebie page, it’s the third row up from the bottom.  There’s lots more to see, I think these chicks are just so cute! I will also be entering this card into the Freshly Made Sketches #175.  Here’s their sketch for this week:

FMS Final 175-001

SAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERAThis is the card for the challenge, I like to stay pretty close to the sketch most of the time.  Aren’t these little chick cute?  I actually named my photo wrong, it’s called Triple Chicks.  The background paper is also Doodle Pantry, from the set called, Easter Egg Ants.  I plan on using that image as well, in the near future;)  I made a second set of chicks and popped them up just with an extra sheet of cardstock. The entire sheet with the chicks has been popped up with dimentionals. The bling was just in my stash, the colored cardstock is a small piece of Wild Wasabi from Stampin’ Up! cut with a small die in a set from Impression Obsession (DIEO18-V).  This card has been approved by my granddaughters, 8 & 9 🙂

SAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERABoth my cards are A2 sized, but for this card, I made the chicks a little bigger.  Same background paper from Doodle Pantry.  If you click on this card and enlarge it, you can see the chicks all have little black dots.  There was one little black dot and my granddaughter (9) said they all had to have dots.  So here it is, also approved by both my granddaughters:)  The cardstock is a small piece of Calypso Coral by Stampin’ Up! also using the same small die cut.  The die that goes with it is much larger;)  The Happy Easter stamp is also Stampin’ Up!, Teeny Tiny Wishes.

I started out my blog giving lots of info regarding supplies and how I made my cards.  I stopped because I didn’t think anyone really cared.  But I’m starting again because when I go to Pinterest or someones blog to look at a card, I like to know the details.  Just looking, I can’t always tell what color was used, whose stamp was used, or where I might get the digital images or stamps used.  So I will try to add everything I can remember, if you have other questions, please feel free to ask:)

I had a virus on my computer about a month ago and lost a couple of my programs.  My favorite Print Shop that I used for almost everything, just disappeared! 😦  Apparently Windows 8.1 is not a friendly environment for a lot of older programs:(  So I’m working with a couple of new programs that I’m still trying to figure out.  My Watermark is not right:(  I’m struggling with making my cards the right brightness.  Very frustrating! 😦  But I’ll keep at it, and hopefully very soon I’ll get it right, please bear with me.

I do appreciate everyone who follows me or just drops in! 🙂  In April I will be having some blog candy for anyone who makes a comment in that month.  Keep an eye out for further details:)

Thanks for coming by today, see you soon! 🙂

Send A Smile 4 Kids with guest- Holly B.

Hi everyone! 🙂  I’ve decided to share some more cards from one of the people sharing cards with Send A Smile 4 Kids:)  I’m going to share three cards today, because two are similar, but different;)  Here’s the first one:

SAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERAIsn’t this cute!?  This card will be good for so many different ages, because Holly sent more than one of this design:)  It’s a little dark here, but this card is bright and cheerful!  Simple with no added embellishments, great card!

SAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERASAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERANow look at these two, the same paper with rainbows, but laid out differently and using different color backgrounds.  They’re almost the same but I think fell totally different:)  What do you think?  I love them both, and I think the papers and colors are excellent choices for kids! 🙂

I’d like to thank Holly B. from Michigan for letting me share some of her cards on my blog:)  I hope you’re enjoying the guest cards! 🙂

Thanks for coming by today, I hope to be back again this week:)

SAS4Kids guest Diane H.

Some of you know that I’m collecting cards for Send A Smile For Kids.  For anyone who doesn’t know about SAS4K, it’s an organization that distributes handmade cards to Children’s Hospitals, in the USA and Canada.  I am collecting cards from people in the USA who make them and send them on to me.  I put labels on the back or add our stamp, add envelopes if needed and pack them by category. I then deliver them to the Children’s Hospital of Illinois.  A very worthy cause and if you are at all interested in sending in some cards, contact me by my email on the side bar, or leave a comment:)

Now on to a card! 🙂  Today I have a card sent in for the children.  I’ve contacted the sender and she has agreed I can show some of her cards:)  I’m only showing one card today because I’m going to show you the inside, outside and the envelope!  This is not a typical card, so if you would like to send some cards, please don’t feel they need to look like this one!  I just want to showcase some of her cards because they give me some great ideas to share and learn from.  And they are just plain awesome! 🙂

The guest for today is Diane H. from ON, Canada.  Even her envelopes are all handmade!  Diane includes a sticker to close the envelope:)

SAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERAThis is the handmade envelope, the big square appears to be printed off her computer.   The Arrr! is a flat sticker, and the coins are a 3D sticker.

SAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERAIf you’ve ever wondered how to use stickers to make an incredible card, here you go!  The island, water, trees and bird look like one big, thin cardboard cutout.  I’m saying it’s a sticker, but I don’t know for sure, I don’t think you could make something this elaborate with a Circuit machine, but I actually don’t know.  The little pirate is a sparkly 3D sticker, as well as the pirate patch.  The circle with words appears to be a computer print out, cut with a die or punch.  Under all that is the striped paper/cardstock.

SAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERAThis is the inside, now I have to say most cards are totally blank inside, you do not have to do anything on the inside of any card you send.  I am just amazed at the work that has gone into these cards! 🙂  A cute find a word game, a nice little saying, great paper and look at those cute stickers!

SAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERAThis is the back of the card!  No, this isn’t required either, and as of yet, this is the only person who has sent cards in the manner.  But, wow, more cute sayings, stickers and some nice cardstock!  I had a hard time trying to find somewhere to put our SAS4K label!

I am very impressed by this card, and I know some child will be too!  But this is an example.  I am not promoting this card as better than any other card!  Children love to receive any card!!  That anyone would take the time to make and send in a handmade card, says so much about that person!  Please, if you are considering making and sending any cards, know that all types of handmade cards are accepted, as long as you’ve done your best, you’re cards are greatly appreciated!!!:)

I plan on sharing many cards from our cardmakers:)  Most of them are not at this skill level, but I consider them all to be wonderful cards!! 🙂 I am so thankful for every single person who makes and sends cards to SAS4Kids!!!! 🙂

I’ve decided to share one more card, I just received permission to use it.  This card is made by Holly B. from Sherwood, MI.

SAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERAOk, this is a very good example of what most of the cards received look like:)  The inside and the back are blank, but look how cute it is! 🙂  Perfect balance, beautiful colors, and a simple design.  I love the jelly bean paper! 🙂  The little bunny is a sticker, and I think the Happy Easter is computer generated. It has three little sparkly, circle stickers up in the top left, and has multiple layers.  This card is a perfect example of a card for the younger children, although it would be good for anyone up to teens.  I think it would be best for children who might pull off 3D layers, buttons, or ribblons and put them in their mouths. Everything is glued/taped down really well and safe for little hands!  The colors are bright and cheerful, a wonderful card!:)

Here’s an update from the cardmaker, Holly B.  The sentiment Hoppy Easter is actually a stamp from Paper Wishes/Hot Off The Press, as well as the 3 Jewel Dazzles in the left upper corner.  The bunny sticker & jelly bean paper are Doodlebug.

Both of these cards are great examples of how to make cards!!  They both have a place to fill for our children.  We also encourage children to send cards to their families.  This would be an awesome card for a child to pick and send to their parents or siblings! 🙂

I know you come to see cards and not hear me babble on, I am just so passionate about cards for children! 🙂  Please share my blog link or the link for Send A Smile 4 Kids.  The more cards we receive, the more hospitals and children we can share with! 🙂

Thanks for coming by today, I hope to see you again!:)

Freshly Made Sketches 172 & SAS4Kids

Hi everyone! 🙂  I’m on a little early today, the kids are all in a bedroom listening to music and coloring:)  I should have at least 15 minutes of quiet;)  Today I have another card for Send A Smile 4 Kids:)  I’m going to enter it in the challenge over at Freshly Made Sketches 172.  Here’s their sketch for this week:

FMS Final 172-001Here’s my card:

Doodle Pantry1a

I think this card could also be a Valentine, but I’ve made it for Mother’s Day.  I’m hoping some  little boy will want to send this to his mom:) The image is from Doodle Pantry and is called, Lil Gorilla Jungle. I used a Cuttlebug embossing folder, added some typed words onto a heart that came with the Gorilla set, and used some heart paper that I printed some time ago and found in my stash.

I use Print Shop 23.1 for almost all of my digital work.  I’m just so used to it, I’ve had it for years! The version of Gorilla I used was pre-colored, but the set also has an uncolored version that you can choose how to color yourself:)  I know I used Stampin’ Up! Real Red cardstock, and I think Smoky Slate behind the Gorilla.  The Gorilla is popped up a little with extra layers of cardstock, also the heart.

I’m off to eat dinner, yep, my 15 minutes is up! lol  I must feed the little monsters:)

Thanks for stopping by today, I’m always glad to have visitors! 🙂  See you soon:)

Freshly Made Sketches #171 & Send A Smile 4 Kids

Well, it’s still Winter here, no surprise, but it’s finally snowing!  We’ve hardly had any snow this Winter, it’s kind of scary.  A Winter without snow isn’t good for Summer water levels:(  I just hope it doesn’t snow us in, I need the kids to all go to school on Monday!

Yes, I love them all, but honestly, I need a break after a weekend with 3 kids and 1 baby in the apartment! 😉

I’ve already gotten 3 packages for SAS4Kids, they are packed up and ready to ship on Monday! 🙂  I’m so excited! 🙂  If they depended on just me to make cards, the pickings would be kind of thin:(  I’ve made five simple cards this week.  Trying to make cards and have 4 kids running around is a challenge!

So here we go……I have two cards for you today, both are going to SAS4Kids, of course:)  I’m going to enter one into the challenge over at Freshly Made Sketches.  I’ll show you that one first:

SAS4KAnd here is the second card:

SAS4K 1Hmmm, my lightening skills are lacking today:(  Both helmets are obviously the same, but they look like different colors in my photos:(  Trust me, they are exactly the same!  They both came from a 12 x 12 sheet of paper from DCWV, I hope that’s right.  I don’t buy a lot of paper from the store, mostly I use Stampin’ Up!  Anyway….it’s from a big pad that I bought at Michaels called All About Boys Stack.  I think I got it last year, or maybe the year before, I don’t remember.  The cover says it has gloss papers, and it does.  Oh, dear, I think I see why they look different. Even though they came off the same sheet, the one on top has gloss all over the helmet square, the bottom one is not glossy.  Wow, that happens when you’re tired I guess, and being disturbed while you’re working:(

I used the awesome Confetti Stars Border Punch from Stampin’ Up!  It was in the Christmas catalog, and it’s in the Occasions catalog now, but not the big catalog.  I would imagine it would be in the next big catalog, but they don’t tell us these kinds of things.  So if you just have to have one, and don’t have a Demonstrator, please let me know.  I do sell Stampin’ Up!, I just don’t go on about it, part of my no pressure sales position. I used the same embossing folder, covered in stars from Darice, for both cards.  Nope, I don’t remember what it’s called, sorry:(  The brown paper with all the sports stuff is from the same stack of paper.  The rest of the papers are Stampin’ Up! except the base cardstock.  It’s kind of a little secret, I don’t want it to be all gone when I need it, but if I don’t tell enough people, the store will think no one likes the paper.

Are you ready?  The base cardstock is from Michaels……yes, Michaels…..and you can use a coupon!!  I hope it’s ok to show you, because it looks just like the other Recollections cardstock, but it’s thicker!!  Click on the photo, you have to get the one that says 110lb-Heavyweight!

Michaels cardstock thickI started using it for my cards for Operation Write Home.  They had requested a good, sturdy cardstock be used.  I searched all over, but anything thick enough, I couldn’t afford! 😦  I have dozens of cardstock packages that I’m letting my grandchildren use because I felt it wasn’t thick enough for OWH.  Now I use this for all my cardmaking bases!  I just load everything else on top of it! lol

OMGoodness, I am so tired!  I hope I’m making sense.  I can hear the snowplows now.  Off to bed with me!

Thanks for stopping by today! 🙂  I hope to see you soon! 🙂
