One last Easter post with a guest

Okay, I’m sneaking in with one more Easter card:)  My guest today is Gail Beggs from Illinois, my home state:)  Gail actually sells cards on ebay, but she sent me a lovely box of cards as a donation for the kids! 🙂  You can find Gail and her cards here.  Gail sent a number of great cards for kids plus some Easter and  Mother’s Day, which, surprise, I will show you as well:)  Now for the Easter cards:)

SAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERASAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERAThese cards are both made with Stampin’ Up! products.  The embossing folder used is the same as the one I will be sending out in May to one lucky winner:)   You can read about the May Blog Candy here🙂  I love everything about these cards, the colors, the embossing folder, the flowers, the crosses…… beautiful! 🙂   At this time, I am the only SAS4K hospital that accepts religious cards.

SAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERAIsn’t this a sweet Mother’s Day card?  The sentiment looks better in hand than in this photo.  I love the colors and the gentle flowers, someone’s mother will really enjoy this card:)

SAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERAHow about this card, is this one too cute?  She sent a few of these, I think someone’s mom will love this one too:)  I love the image, colors and sentiment! 🙂  Gail is very creative and I know she has recently put up new cards:)

Take a look around the Send A Smile 4 Kids blog, this is the link for their card challenge. You can enter your cards and maybe win some freebies for yourself! 🙂

Thanks for coming by today:)  I do appreciate everyone who stops by and takes a look:)  I’ve been making my own cards and will be back again soon to show some off:)

Happy Birthday to me Blog Candy!

I’m changing my Blog Candy to May instead of April.  My birthday is in May, two of my grandsons have birthdays in May, and my husband’s birthday is in May.  What a great month!!:)

So here’s what I’m thinking…..throughout the entire month of May, you can make a comment on my blog, this will get you one chance to win.:)

You can send me a card for a “child” 1 year to 19 years, that will  get you two chances to win:)

If you make a comment during May, and send at least one card, you will have three chances to win! 🙂

If you’ve been following me for the last couple of months, you know I am doing volunteer work for Send A Smile 4 Kids, you can find my address and info here.   This is a wonderful group of people who make, collect, and donate handmade cards to children’s hospitals:)  Any and all cards sent to me will be donated to The Children’s Hospital of Illinois:)

What kind of Blog Candy do I have, you might ask.  I have 4 items that I will send out.  You will be able to let me know what your wish list is by numbering the letters 1-4.  One being what you would like the most, but this is not a guarantee.   These items have not been donated, all these items are from my own personal stash of craft items and are unused!  So here’s my list of Candy:)

A-From Stampin’ Up, Framed Tulips Embossing Folder.  I love this folder! 🙂

B-From Stampin’ Up, Tagtastic, cling mount stamp set.

pic80Samples were part of the catalog display, not included.

C-From Stampin’ Up, You Brighten My Day, cling mount stamp set.

D- From me, die cut outs.

SAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERAI cut these out myself and took a photo, all are included.  I have cats in black, top center and white so you can color yourself.  Kittens, in white, below the cats, and black.  I have puppies, in Stampin’ Up! Chocolate Chip and white.  There are two guitars one in silver and one in black.  Bottom left is a boy on a sled in black.  I love all of these cut outs, so I thought someone else might like them too:)

So, now, I’m hoping you’re wondering what kind of card to send;)  Here are the SAS4Kids suggestions. You could send birthday, thank you, thinking of you, sending prayers, thoughts & prayers, have a great day, encouragement, no sentiment with a cheerful image, Father’s Day is in June, so that would be fine as well.  Please no Get Well, some of these children will not get well:(  We would like to concentrate on cheerful cards:)

I will announce the winners by June 15th, so please follow me so you will be notified of the winners:)  Also, if you send cards, make sure you include your email address and I will be able to notify you personally:)

I’m already planning on Blog Candy for the Fall;)

As always, thanks for coming by and reading my long note! 🙂  I’ll post cards with these items as I make them;)

SAS4K with another guest with Easter

I think this will be my last post with Easter cards……I may be able to squeeze in one more…..we’ll see:)  For today I have another Easter card made by Diane Herniman from Canada:)  Diane makes beautiful cards that I couldn’t CASE in a million years!  Diane uses lots of photos that she’s taken herself in her gardens!  They are truly one of a kind cards! 🙂

This card, as well as the other cards she has sent to me, have already been boxed up and sent to the Children’s Hospital of Illinois:)  Diane and many others, donate their time and efforts to make sure the children at the hospitals served through Send A Smile 4 Kids, have cards to brighten their days at the hospital:)  I know it makes me and many others happy to do this for the children! 🙂

What you’re going to see today is one card, with photos in and out, be sure and see all the photos:)

SAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERAThis is the handmade envelope.

SAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERAThis is the back of the card. So cute for the kids:)

SAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERAThis is the front of the card.  I love the bunny from Diane’s garden, and look at that cute paper! 🙂

SAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERAThis is the inside of Diane’s card.  Usually our cards are blank inside and on the backs, so don’t let this scare you.  SAS4Kids, does not expect all cards to look like this!  But isn’t it beautiful?  Look at those darling little bunnies in their nest.  Even though there are things inside this card, there is still room for a personal note:)

Diane has a talent that she is sharing with our children!  I am so thankful to have been able to receive some of her cards to share with the children in “my” hospital! 🙂  However, if you have sent me cards for the kids, or are thinking about doing so, I love all the cards that come in through me!  Everyone has a different talent to share!  I have showcased other cards from other donors, and I appreciate every single one!  I know the children in the hospital appreciate every card that they receive!  I have spoken with “my” hospital, every card that I have sent in so far has been given to a child:)

At the Children’s Hospital of Illinois, the children are all different ages.  The different cards I receive are good for certain ages.  I leave it up to the staff at the hospital to determine who gets which card.  Some of your cards will be used by the children to give to their parents or siblings.  I will be posting some of the cards I’ve made soon, and you will see that my cards don’t look like this!  I’m proud of my cards, I try to make them for certain age groups, and most of them are pretty simple. I do the best job I can, with the children and parents in mind:)  I don’t compare my cards to Diane’s, I don’t compare anyone’s cards to Diane’s or anyone else that sends cards!  I know that anyone who makes cards for this group or any group has love in their heart to share! 🙂

I have a lot more cards to share!  This month has been about Easter, April will be about Mother’s day.  I’ll also show some cards that don’t have these themes, but mostly I’ll be showing whatever the next holiday will be:)

I’ve decided to make a change to my Blog Candy for April.  It will instead be in May, 2015.  My next post will have all the Blog Candy info, so be sure to sign up to follow me! 🙂

Thanks for coming by, I will be back real soon, I hope you will too! 🙂

SAS4Kids with Guest

This is the month heading into Easter, so I’m trying to show cards that are Easter related.  My guest today is Jill Blasche, from TX.  She sent in cards that she made herself and those of The Card Makers of Glazier Senior Ed. Center.  Jill shared this lovely photo with me of the group:)

2-3-15 002I have 4 Easter cards to share that Jill and her group sent in to share with the kids at The Children’s Hospital of IL.  Sponsored by Send A Smile 4 Kids.

SAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERASAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERAAren’t this precious?!  The first one could be Easter or just Spring, but it has little gems that look like Easter eggs to me;) I love them both and I know the kids will too! 🙂

SAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERASAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERAThese two look like they’re for older kids, maybe boys.  I really like the colors and layout of the top one.  The second one uses a big piece of worded paper.  It opens at the top by the little orange circle tab, so the top and bottom both fold out with space inside for your message.  Really cool, some bunny will really get a kick out of it! 🙂

These are all really great cards for children!  Many thanks to Jill and her group for sending these in to us! 🙂

Here’s some more info about my April  MAY blog candy.  Throughout the month of April 2015, anyone who makes a comment on this blog, will be entered into a drawing for some blog candy:)  What might that be you may ask.  Well, I’ve already decided on one prize, and that will be a Sale A Bration stamp set from Stampin’ Up!  You could, and still can, earn it for free, but you, as well as I, would need to spend $50 on Stampin’ Up! product to qualify.  Here’s a photo of the set for you.

20150106_SAB_en-US-page11I will be announcing more blog candy in the coming weeks so be sure to follow my blog to see everything that I will give away in April MAY! 🙂

Thanks for coming by today! 🙂  My next blog will have some more Easter cards from a guest in Canada. Yay, imported cards! 🙂 lol  Hope to see you soon:)

Freshly Made Sketches #177

Wow, here I am with 3 new cards, and I made them all!  Shocking, I know!  lol  Okay, I actually made one last week and didn’t get a chance to post it;)  Still counts as me making it:)

The first card I made for the challenge over at Freshly Made Sketches #177.  Here’s their sketch for this week:

FMS Final 177-001And my card

SDC15053aYes, it looks almost exactly like the sketch;)  But the color is a little off:(  The background and the sentiment are both Very Vanilla from Stampin’ Up!.  The next layer is not grey, it’s Sahara Sand also Stampin’ Up!  The ribbon is Primrose Petals Seam Binding (retired).  The seam binding and the other embellishments come from a retired set from 2013 called Embellishments Artisan Kit from Stampin’ Up!  (Not the current Artisan kit)

OMGoodness, all that info is correct, but I couldn’t stand it, I had to stop everything and go take more photos!!

abSDC15057Ok, now does it look better?  It’s a little dark, but the colors are more true.  I’m happy now:) This is the card I will enter in the challenge.

This next card, I made for the challenge, but decided it had too much going on.  Any opinions?

SDC15052aFor all my cards today I used my favorite white cardstock bases from Michaels.  You can scroll down on my blog a bit and find all the info on card bases:)  Next I layered Stampin’ Up! Soft Sky, and the strip is some new DSP from Stampin’ Up! called Painted Blooms.  It’s in the new Spring catalog and I love it! 🙂  I used a Stampin’ Up! retired embossing folder on the Daffodil Delight oval, and Wild Wasabi for the sentiment with Chocolate Chip words.  Does anyone recognize the retired Stampin’ Up! Chocolate Bunny?  It’s embossed with clear so you can see a little glare on his ears, I cut him out by hand. Lastly I used the Bitty Banners Framelits for cutting my sentiment from Teeny Tiny Wishes, SU.  I think I’ll enter this one in the challenge over at SAS4Kids, you can check out more cards for kids here.

SDC15051aNow isn’t this little guy cute?!  This is a precolored digital image from Doodle Pantry.  I’m going to enter this one in the Doodle Pantry Challenge, ANTS IN MY PANTRY DIGITAL CHALLENGE  3.  They actually had a shorter challenge name and changed it. lol  It’s all good, I copied and pasted the title;)  This image is called Quirky Bunny, and can be found here.  The kit comes with the background paper as well, and a b&w image you can color yourself.  I used some pretty Easter egg ribbon, hmmm, where did I get that?  Sorry, I can’t remember:(  I did use Tempting Turquoise from Stampin’ Up! behind the bunny, and the same Bitty Banners Framelits to cut the sentiment, which also comes in the kit.

All my cards today will be going in the boxes for Send A Smile 4 Kids:)

Thanks for coming by today! 🙂  I still plan on showing more Easter cards, so come back and see:)

I’d like to remind everyone that in April, I will be having some blog candy!  All you have to do is comment on any of my blog posts in the month of April.  Any comment will be entered to win! 🙂  I’m not sure what I will have yet, but I’m pretty sure there will be three prizes and one prize will be a brand new stamp set from Stampin’ Up! called You Brighten My Day.  I’ll show it next month and make a card with it:)

This is my Stampin’ Up! blog where you can see the catalogs and more cards:)  See you soon! 🙂

SAS4Kids Easter/Spring with Guest

It’s Easter/Spring cards over at Send A Smile 4 Kids! 🙂  Maybe you’re thinking it’s too late to send in Easter cards:(  Not for my location! 🙂  I have until March 23rd to get my box in.  So if you’re done with your cards, or if you’re almost done, please send them in! 🙂  If you still want to send them in, go ahead, I’ll save them until next year:)

If you’re just starting your Easter cards and you’re looking for inspiration, I’ve got some! 🙂  Today my guest is Holly Blaskie from MI.  I’ve shown some of Holly’s cards before, she does a wonderful job with colors, papers and themes! 🙂  I love the way she can use the same supplies and make cards that look really different, yet similar:) Lets see how many I can fit in today:)

SAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERASAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERAFour cards almost exactly the same.  See how just the different colors, can make the cards feel different?  Cardstock and Washi tape, I bet the kids will love them! 🙂

SAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERASAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERAHere are two different layouts with the same paper.  I think they have a completely different feel.  The eggs feel like a younger child, and the flowers feel like an older child, maybe a parent.

SAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERASAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERAI get the same feeling from these two cards.  I don’t know if that was Holly’s intention, but she sure did a great job! 🙂  These are wonderful cards with thought and effort put into every one!  I know the kids will love all of these cards, no matter which one they get! 🙂

Thanks to Holly for allowing me to share her beautiful cards with you all today! 🙂  Check out the SAS4Kids blog challenge page! 🙂  You can see more samples of cards for our kids:)  My location is the only Hospital right now accepting religious cards.  Always upbeat and cheerful, please no Angels waiting at the gates of Heaven.  Suggested sentiments:  Praying for you, Hugs & Prayers, You’re in my thoughts and prayers, all are good sentiments.  I will accept cheerful animal angels, such as cats, or bears.

Praying Birdie

This image is available at Doodle Pantry, very cute:)

This image is available at Fred She Said Designs.  Fred She Said is only taking email orders right now, but you can still get it.

These are both digital artwork and are downloadable to print out on your own printer.  Just suggestions on cheerful angels and prayers.

Thank you for coming by today!  I will be back by soon with some more Easter cards:)

Tips for SAS4Kids cards, or any card

Hi everyone! 🙂  I’m just stopping by today with a few tips regarding Send A Smile 4 Kids cardmaking, but can be used for any cardmaking:)

My first tip is about cardstock, card bases in paticular:)  I have gotten some really incredible cards for kids that are not very sturdy.  I myself, used to use the cardstock from WalMart.  Not any more!  Now I use, only for my card bases, cardstock from Michaels!  Not just any cardstock, I’m going to show you which one, I’ve found to be the best for card bases!

Michaels cardstock thick

You have to look carefully, they have a thin cardstock that looks very much like this one.  You need to get the Heavyweight, 110lb/297 g/m.  I’m serious, you will pull one piece out and you will think it’s three!  I have not stamped on this cardstock.  I don’t use it for anything but bases.  I make the base, 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 (A2 size), this is an 8 1/2 x 11 sheet cut in half and then folded in half,  then I pile everything else on top.  I usually leave a small white border, no special reason, just the way I like to make cards.  Although sometimes I take my color cardstock all the way to the edges.  Scroll through some of my posts, the ones that aren’t guests, and you can see I leave a white border most of the time.

The best part is that you can use their 40% or even 50% off coupon when buying it!!  What a bargain, and the price isn’t too bad either, well worth the trip to the store!  You will need to score this cardstock before folding, it’s that thick!

My second tip is Glue.  Tape runners are good, I use them, but I also use Tombow Multi Liquid Glue.

Tombow glueI sell Stampin’ Up! and I know you can get it there, but, you can also get it at Michaels:)  You do not need a lot of this glue!!!  Seriously, I use a lot of very small dots!  If you gob this on it will ruin your paper or cardstock, just like any glue!  I don’t even recommend it for paper, just cardstock, but you could try it, just use it sparingly!  On top of my base I put my bottom cardstock or paper.  I usually use tape runner for all four sides, and then a small dot of Tombow in each corner and anywhere the tape may have missed.  You have to be careful adding your layers, because once this in on, it’s not moving!!! 😉  I like to make my cards to last! 😉 lol  I’ll put some photos in another post.

My third tip is Paper Trimmers.  I actually have two;)  I have a Fiskars that I bought before I started selling Stampin’ Up!, and a Stampin’ Trimmer I bought after I started.  I have to say, I love them both!  I use them at different times.  I like the Fiskars because it has a little guide wire that helps me cut exactly where I want to cut.  I like the Stampin’ Trimmer because it has the score tool and the cut blade on at the same time.  It lets both work without having to take one off to do the job.  If the Fiskars trimmer has the scoring blade on, the cutting blade won’t go all the way to the top to cut, kind of annoying:(   The Stampin’ Trimmer is a little bit longer so you can keep on both blades and use them both without any problem.  Also, if I run out of blades for the Stampin’ Up! Trimmer, I have to order them and wait for them to come.  With Fiskars, you can run to Michaels.  Although I have gone and they were out, but I usually plan ahead for these things.  Just some info to keep in mind.

A trimmer will save you tons of time, and your cuts will be straight.  Always remember to measure twice, cut once! 😉  I’ve actually marked my trimmers with colored marker at the A2 sizes:)

I am, by far, not the best cardmaker, I’m only offering suggestions that I’ve found to work.  This is my personal blog, not a SAS4K blog.  If you have any questions, comments or concerns, please address them to me in the comment section, or by personal email that you will find above:)

I will leave you with the link to the SAS4Kids Guidelines for making cards for the kids.  These are guidelines, we will accept just about any card you make and send.  Only “my” hospital accepts religious cards at this time.  I love square cards, round cards, shaped cards,  if it will fit in an envelope send it in:)

http://sendasmile4kidschallenge.blogspot.com/p/guidelines-for-donated-cards.html

If you aren’t involved with SAS4Kids, that’s okay too.  My suggestions are general and can be used for any type of card:)  Feel free to visit any time for card inspiration:)  In April I will be giving away some blog candy for anyone who comments during that month.  More info to come about that:)

Thank you all for coming by today! 🙂  I hope you come back again:)
