Freshly Made Sketches #210 Simply Made

I have a really simple card today, although it take me longer than I thought it would;)  I tend to start with one idea and then change it a couple times before deciding on my final layout:)  Today, there is a really good reason for a simple card, you can read about it here at Send A Smile 4 Kids.  I’ve had a request from one of my hospitals for cards with NO embellishments!  I know, seriously!  I always try my best to fulfill requests, so I thought the Freshly Made Sketch #210 was a really good place to start! 🙂 Here’s their sketch:

FMS Final 210-001Looks pretty simple, right?  Well, my card is pretty simple too:)

aSDC18093This may not be the most simple card I’ve ever made, but it must be pretty close!  There are no embellishments on this card!  The sentiment and the branch are both rubber stamped.  The birds are rubber stamped and then colored with my Stampin’ Up! Blendabilities (discontinued).  The stamp set is from Lawn Fawn, Winter Sparrows, as well as the dies.  Please stare at my wonderful coloring, since you know I hardly ever color! lol

I’ve chosen a guest who has done a wonderful job showing off her cards with no embellishments!  This is only the second box of cards I’ve received from Ruby Haugen of MN.  Ruby has done a really good job and I welcome her to my blog:)

SAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERASAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERAAll of Ruby’s cards have really cute, kid friendly, images! 🙂

SAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERASAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERAI believe Ruby used mostly colored pencils to color her images:)

SAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERASAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERA

SAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERARuby has used some wonderful papers and colors! 🙂  She’s also layered her papers and images so they are almost flat! All of her embellishments are paper!  There is nothing on these cards that can be pulled off that isn’t safe for children who may put things in their mouths! 🙂

Thank you Ruby for your wonderful cards, I know the kids will love these cards with fun colors and great images! 🙂

Over on the SAS4Kids challenge blog there’s still one week left to enter cards for the Celebration Cards 4 Kids card challenge!  On November 7th we will be starting Happy Holidays 4 Kids!  Enter our challenge or just check out what others have made! 🙂

Thanks for coming by today! 🙂  I appreciate your support! 🙂  Come again soon for more cards! 🙂

Merry Monday #176, Freshly Made #209, and a tribute to a cardmaker

I have a lot to share with you tonight!  Two cards and then a tribute to a fellow cardmaker with lots of card photos!   First, I have a need for some very simple cards to send on behalf of Send A Smile 4 Kids.  I’ve made two to share with you tonight, the first one if for Merry Monday #176. I know if you go to their page, the title is very confusing, because this is #176, but the page says #175.  I know it’s #176 because I entered #175 last week;)

Merry Monday #176

I found this challenge, well, a challenge.  I was over thinking what I wanted to do.  I keep thinking I should add more, but that would defeat my purpose of a simple card.  Did I mention I was asked to make cards with no embellishments?

aSDC18018For this card, I cut some of the new Red Foil paper from Stampin’ Up!  I cut the paper A2 size and then used a die to cut out the center, creating a frame for the rest of the card.  Now here is where you might be confused.  The image is a pre colored digital image.  Actually, everything, including the black “chalkboard” are all digital images.

I printed the “chalkboard” with a white border around it, then added my “frame”.  The black is actually much blacker in hand, not so white and the colors pop more than I was able to get in my photo:(  But, you can see the shimmer on the left side of my foil paper;)

FMS Final 209-001Yep, here’s where I got my inspiration;)

aSDC18022But I made two cards! 🙂  This card will be entered into the challenge over at Freshly Made Sketches #209. This is what I did with the center of my “frame”.  The same info applies to this card, all digital! 😉  Now if you’ve never made a digital card, please don’t think it’s an easy way out!  Even with this simple design, I had tons of problems! 😦  I tried to print both on one piece of paper, but the program said I had used too much memory, so I deleted one whole card!  Still wouldn’t print, and it wouldn’t save either!!  I had to close the program and start all over!  How frustrating!  Then it would only let me do one card image, so I had to print one, and then flip the paper over and print again!

I don’t give up that easily!  It did let me save the last one so I can make more if I would like to:)  Maybe with added snowflakes, but I’ll have to stamp them because the program wouldn’t let me do that either! Modern conveniences to help make our lives easier, right?! lol

_____________________________________________________

This next section is my tribute to the mother of one of my friends and fellow cardmakers.  My friend, Jill Blasche, who has sent many cards for SAS4Kids, sent in a large box which included a good number of cards from her mother, Helen Matrisciani.  I emailed Jill when the cards arrived and she told me her mother had a fall and was in the hospital:(

I kept in touch with Jill over the next few days, and her mother had come home and seemed to be getting better.  Then I didn’t hear anything for a few days, and I was worried.  I sent a message to Jill and found out her mother had passed:(  I don’t know all the details and it doesn’t really matter. Someone I cared about had lost her mother, I was so incredibly sad! 😦  It’s difficult to know what to say or do:(  How do you help?  All I could do was pray for my friend and her family.

I lost my mother only a year and a half ago, I understand how hard it is! 😦  Jill lived very near her mother, they did lots of things together!  Jill wanted me to express how much she treasured her time doing things with her mother! They loved making cards together and would share ideas back and forth.  Jill said that her mother gave her her love of art and crafts:) Jill said her mother was a very giving person, and I believe it! Helen was 93 years young when she passed.  I believe she will be missed by many, and remembered with love!

SAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERASAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERALooking at Helen’s cards, I can see where Jill gets her talent for using the same images or paper and making the cards very different!  The paper on the ghost card is the same as the skeleton only turned sideways.  And look at the two skeletons, both are very different cards using a very similar image.  Jill was a little embarrassed that I had said she uses the same paper, but actually, I am very impressed!  It’s a talent to use the same images or papers and make your cards look different!

SAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERASAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERAAnother example, lots of similar images, but different papers and layouts! 🙂

SAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERASAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERANot too scary:)

SAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERASAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERAAren’t these fun?!  Helen truly sent cards for all ages! 🙂

SAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERASAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERAI love these Halloween pumpkins, lots of color!

SAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERASAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERAThese are the last four cards I’m sharing.  Helen sent in an incredible 78 cards! 🙂  I love this orange hats floating in the air and the cards on the right are bright and shiny with lots of glitter glue that won’t come off! 🙂  What an amazing group of cards and they have already been shipped out to my hospitals, I know they will be loved by our kids!

It’s truly not what we take with us, it’s what we leave behind.  Loving children with handed down gifts and memories to last forever! 🙂

Hugs and prayers, Jill!

Freshly Made #208, The Friday Mashup #230 & SAS4Kids

I got another card made! 🙂  And, I’m going to enter it into two different challenges!  The first one is Freshly Made Sketches #208, the second one is  The Friday Mashup #230.

FMS Final 208-001FM230F

This week’s Mashup Challenge:
  • Create a project featuring Donuts or Baked Goods.
  • Create a project with a Friendship Theme.
  • or Mash it Up! and create a Friendship themed project with Donuts.

This is so sad, I have no donuts:(  So I substituted baked goods:)

aaSDC17964I wanted to meet the both of the challenge rules and still make a card that a child will love.  I think I did it! 🙂  What kid isn’t going to love Gingerbread cookies?  The central image and the background paper are digital images from Raspberry Road Designs.  The set I used is called Christmas Tradition, I used two sets, the Paper and the Side Clusters Set 1.  The sentiment, which I thought was perfect, I found in a set called Fancy Pie, from Doodle Pantry.

I can’t remember what die I used for the circle, but the oval punches are both Stampin’ Up!  I also used Stampin’ Up! Real Red and Garden Green cardstock.  The sequins are Stampin’ Up! and I used some Dazzling Details on the snowflake.  Of course, this card was approved by my grandchildren;)

Even though I didn’t use a stamp set on this card, I’d like to mention that Stampin’ Up! is having a 15% off sale on stamp sets next week Oct. 19th thru Oct. 23rd.  I’d be happy to order some sets for you is you don’t have a demonstrator:)  If you have a demonstrator, be sure to ask about the 15% off sale! 🙂

Now, I just can’t walk away from Halloween yet;)  I have a special guest today from Canada, Diane Herniman! 🙂  Diane makes cards like I’ve never seen!  All my cardmakers are special, I love all their different styles! 🙂  Diane’s cards are just another different style:)  I couldn’t copy them if I tried!

SAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERASAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERAThis is the envelope and the back of the card.

SAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERASAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERAThis is the card opened, I took two different views.  The little mummy pops up with a little side panel with a bat.

SAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERAThis is the front of the card, isn’t it great? !  I love the whole card, it’s already been sent to one of my hospitals:)  I know someone is going to love it! 🙂

SAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERASAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERAThis is the back on the left and the center on the right.

SAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERAOf course, this is the front, great card! 🙂

SAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERASAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERAThe is the back, I love how Diane matches the puzzles to the cards!  Do you see the gems on the bottom of the card back?  The inside is great too!

SAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERAHere is the card front, is that wonderful?!  All of Diane’s cards are different! 🙂

SAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERASAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERAI’m sorry the back is so blurry, but the cards are all shipped already and I can’t redo:(  But you can see that a cat card is coming up, right?  Look at the inside of this one, very detailed:)

SAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERALook at this great cat!  Isn’t it awesome?!

One more card to go!

SAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERA

SAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERADiane makes all her own envelopes, they’re all different too! 🙂  And here is the back, are you guessing a spider is coming your way?

SAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERASAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERAThis is the center, it’s an easel card!  Isn’t this great?!

SAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERASAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERAThis is the card opened all the way and the front.  Diane has such a great imagination! 🙂  Thank you Diane for these wonderful cards, I know the kids will love them! 🙂

Well, that’s the end of the cards for tonight, I hope you enjoyed them! 🙂  Thanks for coming by today, I’m always glad to have you! 🙂  Come back again soon to see more cards! 🙂

All of these cards will be sent to my Illinois hospitals donated through Send A Smile 4 Kids! 🙂  Be sure to check out our challenge blog, get card ideas, enter to win a prize, and be sure to send your cards in to one of our volunteers! 🙂

Merry Monday #175 & SAS4Kids

I got another card done, only took me three days! lol  With all that goes on here, it’s a wonder I ever get a card done!  I’m actually working 3 different cards that are kind of the same, only not, if you know what I mean;)  Anyway….I did finish one of them and I thought I would enter it in the challenge over at Merry Monday #175, and it’s done before the last day, yay! 🙂  Here is their challenge for this week:

Merry Monday #175aSDC17953Hmmm, now that I’m looking at it here, it looks like I followed the photo almost like a sketch.  That’s really strange, because the other cards I’m working on are totally different.  I chose this one because my granddaughters voted, they liked the plaid moose 😉 lol  I did too, it was not intentional on my part:)

I used two different digital images from Esty.  The background which is the trees with the tan color, and the plaid moose.  I added a small “snow” covering at the bottom from just some torn cardstock.  That layer was added to a Stampin’ Up! Real Red that was embossed with the Stampin’ Up! Tulip Embossing Folder.  Finally I put the whole thing onto a white card base.  I think it looks even better in hand;)  This card will be going into a box for Send A Smile 4 Kids, as will all the cards I showcase today! 🙂

Yes, that means I have a guest today! 🙂  Janelle Klapperich is from SD, she has sent many cards before to be shared with our kids at SAS4Kids! 🙂  I believe Janelle has told me before what cutting machine she is using, but today, I can’t remember:(   I guess I should have written it down, maybe she’ll let us know:)

SAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERASAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERAOMGoodness, I have seen so many cute cards since volunteering for SAS4Kids! 🙂

SAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERASAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERALook how adorable these are, the kids are going to love all of these! 🙂

SAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERASAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERAJanelle has used great papers with her cute images!  These trees are gorgeous for and older child or a parent! 🙂

SAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERAI will have more of Janelle’s Christmas cards in a later post.  I thought I would show these two Fall cards to end with.  These are both just beautiful!  I love the papers, sentiments and the beautiful leaf embellishments!  I will still be sending out Fall and Thanksgiving cards for a while 😉 Thank you Janelle for your wonderful cards and for thinking of our kids! 🙂

Send A Smile 4 Kids has it’s own challenge blog that you can visit here for more ideas, or add your own card for a chance to win a prize! 🙂

Thanks for coming by today! 🙂  I hope you’ve enjoyed the cards and will come back soon to see more! 🙂

Tis’ The Season…#52, Christmas that is

This week I mailed out to my hospitals, all my Halloween boxes of cards for Send A Smile 4 Kids! 🙂  I will still be accepting Thanksgiving and Fall cards, but it’s time to get in the mood for Christmas cards! 🙂  It may seem early, but we need cards not just for the kids, but for the kids to give to their parents, siblings, favorite staff members! 🙂  That’s a lot of Christmas cards! 😉  Of course, there are the every day cards that can be made with Winter themes and colors! 🙂  I love Christmas, I hope you do too! 🙂

And, I made a Christmas card! 🙂  I’m going to enter it over at Tis’ The Season….#52.  I’ve never entered a challenge at TTS, so this should be fun! 🙂  Their challenge is Christmas all year, this week they have a sketch.

ts52fFor those of you who know me, you will be surprised that I didn’t follow the sketch exactly, but I’m not far off;)

SDC17912You may also be surprised that I made a square card.  I almost never make square cards, but this design just worked out better that way:)  No, I didn’t make the bokeh by hand:(  I bought it on Esty, I’m not sure where, sorry:(  But I love it!  The vine is from Memory Box, as well as the ornament and the ornament background shape.  You may not be able to see it well, but the ornament was cut from Stampin’ Up! Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer Paper, it’s beautiful! 🙂

The ornament background was cut from Stampin’ Up! Red Foil Sheets, they’re in the new holiday catalog.  I also cut the berries from the Red Foil using my Owl Builder Punch.  The Owl Builder punch has so many uses, it’s amazing!  The Holly is also a Memory Box die, and I used Stampin’ Up! Garden Green. The silver ribbon is also Stampin’ Up!

I’m very thrilled the way it turned out, especially since I was going to go another way at the beginning.  I couldn’t find the die I wanted to use, so I went with another die, and the whole concept changed:)  Life is just full of surprises! 🙂

Now, I have even more inspiration for you with some guests!  First up is Vicki Luebke of IN!  Vicki is a repeat sender, and I love the way she makes cards that can easily go into an envelope and be mailed! 🙂

SAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERASAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERAI actually love when cardmakers use the same papers and change the layouts and/or images! 🙂  I love all of these, they’re so cute!

SAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERASAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERAThese 4 cards are all Fred She Said images, I love FSS! 🙂  Here’s the store link for Emma the Hugger, but you can scroll through the Christmas list and find all of these images! 🙂  Thank you Vicki for all these wonderful Christmas cards! 🙂  I know they’ll be loved whatever hospital gets them! 🙂

Next I have Alissa McKinney from IN also:)  This is the first time Alissa has sent in cards to us, but she’s off to a good start!  Alissa has told me she bought a Silhouette Portrait, and she buys cards online to cut out her images.  I have a vague idea how this works, so I hope you understand:)

SAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERASAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERA

Alissa has used lots of designs and bright colors, perfect for kids!

SAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERASAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERAAren’t these cute?!  Mugs of Coco and a fun Santa.  All of the main images are popped up.

SAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERASAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERAAll of Alissa’s images are colorful and fun, but wait for the next ones!

SAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERASAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERALook at all these fun Santas enjoying the sunshine on the beach!  These are so cute!  I think the kids will have a good laugh when they image Santa taking a break from his work to go to the beach!  Thank you so much Alissa for these great cards!  I hope to see more of your cards in the future! 🙂

Now because it is still Fall, I want to end with a few Fall cards also using Fred She Said images.  These cards are made by a repeat sender, Holly Blaskie from MI:)

SAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERASAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERAHere’s the link for Emma in the Leaves, that’s the one with the leaves in the air.

SAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERAHere is the link for Raking, I love both of these images and have used them quite a bit myself! 🙂  Thank you Holly for these great Fall cards for the kids, I know they’ll enjoy them! 🙂

All of these cards will be going into boxes for Send A Smile 4 Kids!  Thank you to all the cardmakers who make this possible for the kids! 🙂  SAS4Kids also has a challenge blog where you can enter a card or just check out what others are making! 🙂

Thanks for coming by today! 🙂  I’m thankful for your interest, even if you don’t send in cards;)  I hope you come again to see more cards for inspiration! 🙂

The Paper Players #265 & Halloween guests for SAS4Kids

Okay, we’re winding down on the Halloween cards, but not tonight!  Tonight, I have three guests with cards for Send A Smile 4 Kids! 🙂  First, my card for the challenge over at the Paper Players #265🙂  It’s a Halloween challenge! 🙂

pp265pumpkinThere were no guidelines, except to make a Halloween card.  I chose to make a Stampin’ Up! circle thinlits card.  I’ve been thinking about making this type of card for a few weeks.  Then some came in for SAS4Kids, and I knew I had to put one together! 🙂  I even used one of the same papers:)

The card base is Stampin’ Up! Tangerine Tango, and I used Motley Monsters DSP from last year for the right side.  The cute puppy and the moon are from Lawn Fawn, they come with matching dies.  The candy corn on the left I bought at Michaels at least a year ago, it’s all sparkly:)  My granddaughter approved this card, as a matter of fact, she wants to keep it! 🙂  I guess I’ll have to make at least one more! 😉

Now on to our guests!  My first guest is a repeat sender, Nancy Simmons, from FL:)  Nancy makes great cards and usually uses a lot of ribbon.  Today she has used Bakers Twine.  I’m only showing some of her cards.  She made a few designs but changed up the papers and sent multiples! 🙂

SAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERAThis is how I display them in my log book.  I keep track of everything! 🙂  There are even more than this, but here are some close-ups:)

SAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERASAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERA

Nancy is another one of my cardmakers who is a wiz at changing papers around to make cards look different!  I’m not good at this, it takes me forever just to pick out one paper! lol

SAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERAAren’t these great?!  I know Nancy uses Stampin’ Up! products a lot of the time! 🙂  I love all these cards, they’re fun and definitely not-too-scary! Thank you Nancy for the great cards! 🙂

Next I have Tammy Gullett from IA:)  Tammy is also a repeat sender!  I love all my cardmakers, I have a great group! 🙂 Tammy also sent some great cards! 🙂

SAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERASAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERAWhat fun cards, I know the kids won’t be afraid of these! 🙂

SAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERASAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERAThis a great Frankie card!  I’m sorry my photo is a little blurry, but I couldn’t take a new photo:(  All these cards have been packed in boxes and are ready to be mailed out this week:)

SAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERAHere is Tammy’s card that gave me the idea to use the Stampin’ Up! DSP.  Tammy used a similar technique, but I can’t tell if she used the die I used.  These are all wonderful cards to share with our kids, Thank you Tammy for sending them in! 🙂

My last guest today is Andrea La Vigne from TX:)  Andrea has her own blog 🙂  Please visit Andrea’s Paper Antics for more details on her cards:)  I’ve linked the page for this card, because it’s awesome, but she has plenty of other cards that are great as well! 🙂

SAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERAThis is an awesome shaped card with sequins inside! 🙂  The kids are going to be jealous of whoever gets this one! lol  Andrea tells how she made it on her blog, so be sure to check it out! 🙂

SAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERASAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERAI love the papers Andrea uses, and her layouts are great too! 🙂

SAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERASAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERAI love these 4 cards!  They are such gentle Halloween cards!  I know any age would appreciate these cards! 🙂

Thank you Andrea for sharing your talents with us and the kids! 🙂  Andrea is also a repeat sender:)

I don’t think I can thank my cardmakers enough for all they do for the kids at Send A Smile 4 Kids! 🙂  Check out the SAS4Kids challenge blog to see what other cardmakers are sending in for our hospitals! 🙂

Thanks for coming by today! 🙂  I appreciate everyone who visits my blog too! 🙂 I hope you can come back again soon! 🙂
